I have an opportunity to move my Catalina 30 from Waukegan to a stardock at Montrose. Anything I should be concerned about regarding access, dinghy storage, parking, etc.?

Fond memories of Montrose Harbor

I used to sail on a friend's boat and he had it moored on a stardock at Montrose Harbor. For me, it was very accessible because I worked downtown and lived near Cicero & Peterson (right off the Edens). I was mostly sailing with him on weeknights and occasionally on weekends. It was easy to get there from downtown, just by shooting up Lake Shore Drive. If you live and work in the 'burbs, the downtown harbors are probably a lot more accessible. Anybody who drives to The Friendly Confines can tell you how hard it is to get anywhere near there off the Kennedy. Dinks were conveniently stored in racks and there should be a space available for each stardock slip. There always seemed to be plenty of parking available. Montrose is a great location and has the bonus of a beautiful park and beach right there. The yacht club is fun and nearby nightlife can't be beat! Racing is an active part of the club. Some may think it is more exciting downtown, but others prefer being a little more removed, but still in a great part of the city. It's only about 5 miles north of Navy Pier, so sailing down to Grant Park is a fun excursion for a day. I'd say you can't go wrong if you make the move, unless the drive into the city is a big issue. Getting off the Edens at Peterson or the Kennedy at Addison still leaves you with a long, slow drive to Montrose Harbor. Try it a few times during the hours you are likely to be driving to your boat to get a feel for what's involved. I'd say that is the only drawback to that location if you come from outside the city.
