Just a quick note to thank the designers and builders of my 1981 H33. My wife and I are coastal cruisers, we dont pretent to be blue water sailers but we do take safety seriouslly. We have owned our H33 for over two years and have had her in some moderate squalls, hard not to do down here in SW fla. We just returned from a 25 day cruise in the lower keys and on our way down to Key West we encountered one hell of a storm, for us anyway. We had sustained winds of 40 knots on our port stern for over six hours (confirmed by the local fisherman) with waves that were in the 10' range with some occasional 12'+. We were sailing at 7.5-8.5 knots under bare poles. She made a lot of weird and strange creaking, squeeking and groaning noises but nothing serious broke. We then spent the next two weeks in winds that AVERAGED 20-25 knots day and night with periods of 30 knots, very weird weather for this time of year in south florida. We managed to beat our brains out heading from Key West to Book Key over a 10 day period and still this boat held up. The crew, however, was getting tired and beat up. When the weather finally eased we ran back up to the Everglades and than home. Our only design problems with this boat is that she tends to wrap crap pots when the idiot (me) at the helm fails to see them. All in all this is a great boat that I now have even more confidence in than before.
