Started this thread because I saw prop questions on the hot water heater post. What are your requirements in a 3-blade? I assume you are RH drive with a one inch shaft. What about pitch and diameter? I might be able to help.

prop question

Ed, you are the first person to offer any hope of finding a three blade for my boat. The prop that is on the boat at this time is a '13/10' rhr bronze of unknown origin. That is - diameter=13", pitch=10, oriented to a right hand rotation. I believe the most I can go is 14" by my measurements and I feel that anything other than a 9deg pitch on a three blade would be too much for my motor. Repowering and repropping are new to me and I need to hear from sailors with 'salt on their sandles' more than anything. I've done my best figuring and have gone as far as I can. Sounds like you might have my answer. OBTW this is a 1" shaft application.

When I was shopping for a propeller (and I ended up with the same flex-o-fold Ed has) I used the on line calculators to get suggested sizes. You will need to know
Engine power
Engine RPM
Transmission ratio
Hull type
Boat weight
Direction of rotation

Many propellers (including mine) are made for a shaft size and an SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) taper. If your shaft is 1" and the thread is 3/4" then this is most likely what you have.

Once you get recommendations you also need to check clearance.

H30 prop question.

I would go with John's suggestion about an online calculator. For my 2QM20 and then 3YM30 I relied on the Flex-O-Fold rep. I think originally he was the owner of the prop company and seemed to know his stuff. Maybe you have a local guy who can "make" what you need.

Most of my prop experience is not relevant. It comes from years of powerboat racing when we used to change the pitch, cup the tips, change the diameter, etc. right at the race site. Loved to hammer a new shape and then go run the mile with a stopwatch.

Prop Recommendation Help

Here is a site I have posted before. It has a good article on why 3 blade props are better than 2 blade and a tab that will give you their prop recommendation. I have not used their recommendation page but it may be of use to you.

Campbell Sailor Prop

When I Repowered My 37 Cutter I Went To Westbynorth.com And Talked To Norm And Gave Him All My Boat And Engine Info. He Recommend A Prop That Worked Great With The New Engine. Seems That You Have To Decide If You Want A 2 Or 3 Blade Prop And I Opted For The 3 As Cruising Was My Main Concern Then And The Design Of The Campbell Sailor Makes Sense .... Still More Drag Than A Folding Or 2 Blade But It All Is A Comprimise.... I Am Still Looking At A Kiwi Feathering 3 Blade And That May Be My Next Choice... Right Now I Race The Boat And Power Under Engine Is Not Important So I Spin A Martec 16x12x1 And When I Go Cruising I Have The Diver Change It Back To The Cambell Sailor.....great Prop

Underwater prop changes.

That has to be an expensive proposition, regular changes of the prop by a diver. Believe me I know, having had divers install a new prop in the Erie Canal. I think that I would get my dive license. Over time my 3-blade Flex-O-Fold would pay for itself, probably less than ten dives. :)

Change....

WELL ED I GUESS IF I CHANGED IT OFTEN THEN IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE BUT I ONLY CHANGE IT ONCE IN A WHILE AND ONLY IF I PLAN ON GOING CRUISING FOR 3-4 WEEKS OR LONGER. DIVER ONLY CHARGES $80:confused: AND I DON'T THINK THAT'S BAD... HE ALSO ONLY CHARGES $1-1.25 A FOOT TO SCRUB THE BOTTOM WHEN I CALL HIM

Diver rates.

Wow, those are great rates for a diver. Too bad Port Charlotte is so far from the condo in New Port Richey. I'm guessing it is is a lot higher in Tampa Bay. Seriously, I think I will get licensed while I can still swim. Only a matter of time til the arthritis takes over.

Just back after a little jaunt. Went to the club and read my prop. One side says
591
MI/FED SAILER
13 LH 10

The other side has A4132 stamped on it
This is as I said a two blade prop
