Hunter Cherubini 36_80-82 Sausalito / San Francisco Bay
This Cherubini forum's been quiet of late! Must be we have all figured out everything and/or all our boats are doing OK at the moment. Or lots of folks are out sailing.

Last week I sailed from Sausalito to Redwood City and back -- about 30 miles each way. While down there, at another dock of our guest marina, Westpoint Harbor, I noticed a Cherubini Hunter 37. Didn't get close enough to have much of look. Then when out for a jog, I saw another one at the Redwood City Municipal marina. The dock gate was locked, so also I couldn't get close.

At my home slip town of Sausalito, on a dock just a short distance away, is one that could use some TLC. Attached is a pic. Its been in the same condition for several years now.

I've yet to see another of my model Hunter Cherubini H36 on SF Bay. The 37's must rule.

C&C Frigate 36 St. Margarets Bay, Nova Scotia
How to date a 37c

I have to admit I love my 1983 H37C, so the title of this post is a bit tongue in cheek...

I too have seen other H37Cs but have never seen an H36 in the 'fiberglass'. It would be interesting to have a really good guide to the production history of the Hunter Cherubinis, model by model, year by year. For example, on the neglected H37C you show, I would guess its a 1982 or 83, based on my own '83. It appears to have the cabin top main traveller (which I think Ed S. says came in circa 1980), it has the CDI furler and it has 3 large portholes each side in the main cabin (mine has 2 large and 1 small) so I would guess 1982 or early 1983. I wonder if any one at Hunter would be interested in opening the production record vault for some research...be an interesting thesis project for a history graduate student (presumably one who sails...:)

Hunter 37 C sloop Punta Gorda FL
Down here near the equator, sailing season is over. Snow birds are gone, boats are out of the water for hurricane season, and bugs rule.

We are tearing into our 37c in the 95 degree weather with 105 degree heat index. The admiral has seen the value of Marine A/C so that is now near the top of the list. We have a carry on that is keeping the main cabin dry and taking 5 to 10 degrees off the outside temperature but it is still painful to touch the toerail, traveler or hatch frames. It is even un pleasant to walk on the very very pale blue deck. Next October when the boating season comes, our boat will be many thousands of dollars improved, and I will have cuts and bruises everywhere.

Hunter 37 Cutter 1979 Hampton Bays
Hi Guys and Gals, by the looks of the photo another Cutter has bitten the dust and made into a sloop, I for one am a cutter man, easy on the old bones to reef,( I even need roller on both ). As promised will post photos of progress this winter with many updates been saving for the time and Many dollars to do. This forum has had me change some plans along the way as the owner modifications have given me a better way to look at things. Happy Sailing, Cheers Jeff

hunter 37c long beach
We have a 1984 ( one of the last ones i believe) while we moved our bout from Florida to Los Angeles, i have not seen another Hunter 37C anywhere.. when we go out to Catalina island, we are always the only Cutter on the ocean.. We always get lots of looks from other sailors when they see the cutter rig. They have even chased us down and ask what kind of boat it is. So i can only guess that hunter primaraly sold the 37C's on the east coast, and this is why they are so rare on the west coast.. it would be nice if someone had sales records from hunter, as to where and how many went to the west coast.. hummm. By the way, we REALLY love our 37C, 2 weeks ago, we had 18 to 20 knts on the beam, and made 7.4 knots all the way home.. what a ride it was..

Hunter 37-cutter, '79 41 23' 30"N 82 33' 20"W--------Huron, OH
There are twenty-five west coast 37-cutters if we believe the Owner's Directoriy. Dave Simpson has lived on his for years on Catalina Island. And there is Morrie in Hawaii. My friend Josh lived on his in San Francisco Bay and then moved it to Monterey. But I agree in theory, lots more on the Great Lakes and east coast.

Hunter 37-cutter Rockledge, Florida
...from the Indian River Lagoon

This is a pic from a beautiful spring morning in March, and the 1st day of hoisting both sails after making necessary related mods.
The 1st shakedown sail occurred on April Fools Day (by design), 14.5 months after acquiring this project.
With but 3 additional sail outings since then, the focus of the project is shifting from 'general refurbishment of everything' to 'make ready for delivery as is'....Miss Bobbi is heading for Biscayne Bay in October with the intention of racing(?, well kinda) in the 56th Columbus Day Regatta!

Sailing in the Regatta was a stated goal (based on a late-night bar dare) that was part of the 'inspiration' to come home with this vessel rather than the bimini top for a skiff (from craigs list) that I started out to get. Or something like that anyway; it's a long story.

Safe sailing-

Brad
