I have a 36 cherubini, have some issues with my HIN, ive been told theres always a second hidden HIN somewhere in the boat, wondering if anyone knows where to find it.

I am not sure if the 'second HIN location' is true for our old Cherubini Hunters. Although I have heard this is true in newer boats, I have never found a second HIN in 12 years of crawling in almost every nook and cranny of my 1983 37 Cutter.

You didn't mention where you checked for the "non-hidden" HIN. Just in case you have missed it, on my 1980 Cherubini Hunter 36, the HIN is on exterior of the transome. Down low along the bottom edge. But can't remember whether port or starboard. Has yours weathered away? Or lost maybe due to damage repair or a sanding/painting project Mine is still plenty visible. I've been all over my boat through the years and haven't noticed another HIN. But also, I've never really looked.

My non hidden HIN was covered up many years ago with the addition of a sugar scoop, the title with the boat starts out with "CTZ" which i have come to learn means a title was reissued for the vessel by the state of Connecticut. The title lists the boat as an 84 though and from what ive read the 36 cherubinis were only made 80-82. But the title does list the make as Hunter and the length as 35' 11" which i kno are both correct for the 36 cherubinis. So my concern is that i was given a title to a different boat . Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Could you post a picture of your 36 to clarify the design year ?

Anywhere in the inside is a Documentation Number? This would be something fairly obviious. Like a piece of wood mounted in the V-Berth with numbers engraved on it. If the boat at some point was federally documented, they might have the original HIN number on record which you could inquire the Feds about?

Also if somewhere you could find the sequence of name changes. That might help as well.

What's a sugar scoop. I haven't encountered anything named that boat part before!

Never been documented as far as i can tell, no obvious numbers and the previous owner didnt kno anything about it being documented. I dont kno where or how to trace back the name changes, i was curious about that also. The sugar scoop is like a swim deck that is molded onto the transom, flows with the lines of the boat And looks like a big scoop lol.

From what state is it the title you are holding? What is the hull number included in that title? The date of issuance of that title and its reference number (is that the CTZ# ?) may be all that is needed to get the history of the title with the State DMV to see if it may match the possible history of the boat. If there is no hull number on the title it could be possible the sugar scoop was added prior to the reissue. In any instance the history will be documented at the DMV for the issuing State of the title you are holding.
