We are considering purchasing a 78 Cherubini 33, but can find very little information on the sailboat. Any advise anyone can offer would be most appreciated.

Can't go wrong!
I own a '79 H33 myself and I love it! I didn't have this problem, but considering the age, be on the look out for blisters on the bottom. Any alterations or "repairs" I've had to make have been mostly due to the prior owner's mistakes. The boat itself I have found to be quite solid and reliable for coastal crusing. My wife and I sail her with no problam. My cockpit is actually set up for single handing which also is something not usually found in a 33 foot boat. Check through the engine. It's had some amount of time on it too. All in all I've been very pleased with mine for the fours years I've owned her. Best of luck!!!

Reviews and a survey
At the lower left corner of the site home page is a link "The Boats". Then select the older 33. When you get there, you will find a link to about 20 owner reviews of this boat, which was designed by John Cherubini. Many of us own and love boats from this era. You will also find a link to boat listings son you can compare features and prices with your prospect. BUT...purchase of any boat from this era requires a really good survey. Spend some time getting a good surveyor. Then, if you like the boat, go for it! The survey will get you started on the maintenance the boat needs. The archives here will tell you how to correct almost any manageable problem, and these boats definitely reward the effort to keep them going. On the other hand, if the survey simply identifies too many issues for you to manage, then you are out of the contract, and can keep looking. Good sailing! David Lady Lillie '77 h27

The 33 Hunter the Best
The 33 is a sweet, comfortable, homey,and roomy boat. It, in my opinion,is the best. However, that said, there are some real dogs out there. Check the engine and I do mean check that sucker out because I bought mine with a cracked block; the owner did not know it however but I still had to fix it. I highly recommend a survey; you will be money ahead and may avoid an unpleasant experience. But, it is hard to beat a good 33. Joe

Three Blade Prop
Dorothy, One more tidbit of advice--whether you decided on a 33 or another earlier Cheribini--consider changing the prop to a three blade. It will make a big difference in the power and handling of the boat. Good Luck, Joe
