Its strange that the oil I drained was black and the new oil was grey after 5 minutes of checking it.I put in 30 grade oil. Thanks

Yup. The older the engine the more likely the oil will be dirty after few minutes. The newer models stay cleaner longer.

yup, if you rub it tween ur fingers and it doesnt feel like there's a little grit in it, then ur fine. thats how i gauge when to change mine.

As long as the gray color does not mean emulsified water and oil it's no cause to worry. If it is the original engine it is 30+ years old and 30 weight oil would likely be a bit thin. I would rather use 15W40 which when hot will be a little heavier and will improve compression.
