Practical Boat Owner, the great british yachting mag just had a story of a boat which unexpectedly filled its bilge with a huge amount of h 2 0 thru its PSS . "during a difficult berthing, helm was alternating port to starboard with full engine. the high prop wash caused flexion of the PSS, the seal popped off and water came into the boat from the gland interface. the engineer's inspection showed a cable tie supporting the water feed pipe was located too close to the gland, preventing the PSS gland from compensating so the seal popped off . " the leakage was cured by cutting the cable tie and allowing the feed pipe more freedom to move ."
