I am having a new Furling system put in and decided to replace the headstay ($125) as it was 20 + years old. Good thing I did, as it was very frayed at the top, not visible to the eye. I do not want to even think what would have happened the weekend before while we were on the water if the headstay went. (We were in 15 + knots with children on board) Lessons Learned: Headstay replacement cost : $125, cheap insurance to avoid a bad situation.

Very scary!

I continually worry about that. My H37C has the original solid rod furler, there is no wire. I wish there were some way to know where the weak point(s) is/are. Problem is that the "insurance" is replacing the furler, a very expensive proposition!
