THERE IS NO ROOM FOR A VENTED LOOP BETWEEN THE HEAD AND THE OVERBOARD DISCHARGE, WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE PORT SIDE LAZERETTE FORWARD OF THE HOLDING TANK, THEREFORE SEAWATER BACKS UP INTO THE BOWL WHEN SAILING OR NOT. CAN A 1 1/2 " CHECK VALVE BE USED IN THE LINE OR WOULD THIS PRESENT A CLOGGING PROMLEM ? WE USE THE BIODEGRADABLE PAPER. THE SIZE OF THE FLAPPER IN THE CHECK VALVES I HAVE LOOKED AT APPEARS TO BE ABOUT 1"-1 1/4'

There's room...

You just aren't looking in the right place. Aim your head discharge fitting straight up...mount it directly above (or as close as possible) the toilet. Any valve in the discharge line is just asking for problems..however, replacing the joker valve in the toilet once a year would certainly help. However, your problem may not be the head discharge...If you're leaving the head intake thru-hull open, it's more likely that's where you're taking on water. Keep the head intake thru-hull closed--or install a shut-off valve in it--while underway...install a vented loop between the pump and the bowl to keep water from rising in the bowl while the boat's at rest.
