Check this potential scamm on e-bay

Hunter 33 (Cherubini design Forked River, Barnegat Bay, NJ
There is a 1981 Hunter 33 up for auction on e-bay by a guy calling himself grw 0357. Among the pictures he posts is a picture of an engine. The engine he shows can not be out of his boat because it is the engine in MY Hunter 33. My hand writing shows on the oil filter, my knee shows in the lower right corner, my added in battery shelf shows behind the engine. The fact that it is a 3 cylinder Yanmar in a boat that came with a 2 cylinder is a give away. I know of only one other Hunter 33 with a 3GM30F and the boat in the pictures is not Wave School. It seems the guy lifted the picture from this web site's archives. I posted a Photo Forum piece about how I improved access to my engine. There appears to be something bogus going on here. What do you guys think?

google the phone number in the ebay add and it shows up in a number of for sale items. several boats, a house, cars... "My phone is: 412-496-0766 Call with all detailed questions."

Which around that year would mean the 2QM15 and that engine does not look like that. Maybe he's a boat dealer (or just personal buyer and seller trying to flip for a few extra bucks) I see he's on Craigs list looking to buy Sailboats. He's not too trustworthy though because it seems he just lifted the picture because he didn't have one. Not the right thing to do, but possibly he does have the boat for him to sell.

your suspicions about the engine are dead on. that engine can't be a 2qm15. they stopped manuf of them in 1980. however the 2GM 15 and 20 were built until 1983. the 15 would'nt be enough engine to push a 33 a 20 would still be a bit iffy. the 20 was the same engine as the 15 with a slightly shorter stroke and yanmar merely rated it at 20 and upped the max rpm for it to be run at. to give him the benefit of the doubt he just may not know. S/V Que Pasa?

The engine picture is gone

I just checked the site this am and there is no picture of the engine. Perhaps your complaint led ebay to request it be removed. You know, honest boat brokers post pics of "sister ships" all the time. I've seen other ads with pictures from the brochure. Maybe he just didn't have a picture of the engine. Granted, he should have indicated that it was a "sister engine"?

Correct, it's not Wave School

As the current owner of the former Wave School, I can tell you that it is not for sale on e-bay. But it DOES have the upgraded engine (good memory Sam). I checked the link and found the following note. "NOTE: "The engine was the wrong photo a big mix up on my part." Ernie

Pics Changed

The engine pics have been changed. There are now pics of a 2 Cyl. Yanmar, which I think is a 2QM. Its either a 2QM or 2GM.
