A) it depends on how many days a season you leave it out, and B) for $10 you get 100ft, most people are only going to use ~30ft at a time as a painter, so that's 3 changes you get out of it.

So worst case and it only lasts 1 season, you get 3 years of painter lines for $10 (vs floating poly painter line from defender at $0.79/ft, 100'= $79 http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|294|314563&id=912433)

For me, I only inflate the dinghy about 5-7 weekends a year (aka when actually using it), the rest of the year it is deflated and rolled up in the v-berth, along with the painter line. With that in mind I should easily get 2-3 seasons out of each section of line, or more. That equates to me more than likley not having to buy another painter line until the year 2020, unless I loose it, or give some to someone else... sounds like a good buy to me :)

I use and inexpensive polypropylene mainly because it floats. I have a polypropylene spring line between the painter and the bridle as a shock absorber. It will likely out last me. I keep it in the laz and away from the sun when not in use.

I used the line in the op's pic to tie down my winter covers one year.... it is horrible! The cover is the most suceptible to abrasion I have ever in 50 years used. It stiffened so much after a couple months it wouldn't hold a knot. (I should have known when I uncoiled it when new and it wouldn't shake out the kinks) The "core" is simply untwisted/unbraided strands of poly. When the cover wears or loosens, the core strands pop out and part quickly.
For very little more money you can go to HD, Lowes, or Ace hardware and buy Derby line. Bright color choices and available in a couple different diameters. It floats, stays soft for years, holds knots well (doesn't splice), and suffers from minimal abrasion problems when used as a dinghy painter or dinghy dock line. Sold by the foot so you can buy only what you need. After 14 summers, I replaced mine for good measure but I am still using the original for misc. purposes around the boat.
