I have to attend a professional conference in San Diego running from MAY 20-25 of this year and would like to charter a sailboat with one or two of my work mates during that time. The plan is to use the boat for sleeping at night and to do small cruises in the bay during late afternoons and perhaps for a couple of days before or after the conference. Any info regarding chartering boats in the area, hopefully, but not necessarily, near the convention center will be greatly appreciated. Alternatively, any owner of an equivalent boat in that area interested in swapping a week of cruising with my 361 Beneteau (2001), mooring in Marblehead MA could also be an option. Never done this but I don’t see why not.

Deja Blue Charters

I sailed a beautiful and well equipped Hunter 356 the last time that I was in San Diego. It was in a Marina close to the airport, but I can't recall which one. I have a business card around here somewhere and will post the info for you when I find it.

Deja Blue Deja Vu

I was in contact with the owner and got more details. The boat Deja Blue is a 2002 Hunter 356 and sails out of Harbor Sailboats on Harbor Island. They are an ASA Sailing School and have taken top honors in recent years. Club is great and what I remember is there is a deli, a restaurant, restrooms and showers, a pool and hot tub at the marina- maiking it perfect for your needs. For more marina info go to: www.harborislandwest.com. For club info go to: www.harborsailboats.

Thank you for the info

Although the places suggested appeared really nice, their prices are very high, particularly for not members, and they were far from the downtown. However, they suggested me to call a place that turns out to be ideal for my needs. The name is Seaforth boat rentals and is located in front of the Marriott at the convention center. Thanks for the suggestions .

Harbor Sailboats

I remember Seaforth when I was in SD. The word was "they'll rent to anyone". I wonder what kind of shape their boats are in. Seems to me they were on Coronado Island, across the bridge from downtown, but maybe they have more than one location. Shelter Island is farther away from downtown than Harbor Island. I checked out the both clubs and Harbor Sailboats has much newer, better maintained boats with better stay aboard arrangements. You get what you pay for, I guess. You might call them and see if they can give you a week rate? 800-854-6625. The two people there I remember were Leanne and a real sailing pro, Andy. Good luck and happy sails.

Renting per hour or day is chaper but not for overnight. I believe that the quality of the boats is probably not as good but they are next to the Convention center and offer all the serivices from the Marriott. Per person, and sharing it with 3 or 4 on board it is a better deal than staying at the Hotel and I hope more fun. Thanks for the info.
