In my C-30 (1985) the chart table shelf covers the batteries and is not removeable. It is practically impossible to look in the battery holes to see if the water level is up and even harder to add water. Has anyone ever figured a way to make this shelf removeable? Without taking the chart table apart of cutting the shelf, there is no way it is coming out of that door hole. I don't want to loose it completely, but it would be nice to take it out for battery access, then put it back, without having it loose supporing strength. Any suggestions?

Cut it in half

And put a hinge in the center of it front to back so it will fold up left to right. That way it will be small enough to remove through the doors.
