Charleston Mast
How often did the charter company check the rig and tune the rig?Having spent quite a few years in the rigging business, this sounds more like the results of poor tuning practices and not product defects.Especially with the B&R style rigs. The reverse diamonds pose different stresses on a rig than a conventional rig. While the B&R style rig is very strong, attention to tuning the mast is important. It was probably tuned when the boat was new, but after a couple years(even one good Season)the wire will stretch and the rig will need to be tuned.A loose rig or out of column rig can be structurally damaged when sailing in heavy air or tacking alot.If your rig is still standing, it should be possible to pull the mast and repair it by a qualified yard.Good Luck.
