I am going to take my boat to charleston for about 9 days. I am a little familiar with the harbor. I know of the anchorage behind morris island but am looking for other places to sail to and anchor for the evening. I have heard kiawah island is a good day sail but can you anchor there? How about up river some? If anyone knows of anyplace up or down the coast from charleston it would be a great help! Rich

Lots of places

How large is your boat? Are you looking for some place to just drop anchor and be out of the way? Or somewhere close to the action? A lot of places that were nice and quiet a couple years ago are like Grand Central now. Still quite a few places available, though.

mac 26s is my boat...

thinking about staying in a marina a couple of nights to check out charleston, but was wondering about other good anchorages in the harbor and 1-3 days sailing up or down the coast with good beaches and safe anchorages.

Here are some

A lot of creeks around the area that are protected from weather. I'm partial to the Mt Pleasant side, but only because that's where I spend most of my time. Looks like this is $60/night http://www.charlestoncitymarina.com/rates.cfm Patriots Point, better view in my opinion. If they don't have a minimum, then it should be about $51/night http://www.charlestonharbormarina.com/reservations.htm Some other marinas here http://tinyurl.com/2xmvjs
