I'm a recent Hunter owner (1994 H40.5). It has the Adler-Barber refridgeration/freezer system. What is the procedure for charging them? Do you turn them on and leave them on for the duration, regardless of motoring or sailing, or do you charge them an allotted time per day? Thanks, Bill Jones

Charging?

Charging is generally a maintenance function where lost freon is replaced in the refrig. system. You won't need to have it charged unless the system is malfunctioning. If you are talking about running the system, I turn mine on and leave it on unless the boat is not being used. Be sure you keep you batteries charged. The A.B. system uses about 5.7 amps when it is running, if it's a single unit, which comes out to about 60 amps a day. Mine has 2 compressors and uses about 100 amps a day. Good luck, A.B.

A/B Operation

I believe you have the "PowerPlate" system on the 40.5. You only need to turn the unit on and let it cycle as it needs to. The plate will freeze solid and shut off. It will on occasion cycle on to "top off" the plate when necessary.
