Charging Amperage at dock

When I dock my boat and attach to shore power (30 Amps), I set my Xantrex charger to the lowest setting, <5 amps. As I leave on my A/C on the dehumidify setting, I am trying to minimize current draw on the shore power. My question does this low setting affect battery charging? I know it takes longer to fully charge than the 30 Amp setting, but is it affecting the amount of charge that the batteries will take or the life of the batteries?

As long as the charger rolls back to trickle after it senses full charge, no problem. I'm unfamiliar with your charger but some may be constant charge if you set it at a specific setting.

What charger? Specifically. Xantrex model # and year. That would help us to help you.
