I have been looking for info in regards to changing out the original traveler on my 1977 O' Day 25. I have the centerboard model and I really do not like the "screw pin" traveler that she currently has. I want to get a Garhauer MT-3 and swap out the original.

I am wondering how much contorsioning I am going to have to do to get things unbolted and re-bolted. I don't recall having much visibility last time I was under there. What are your experiences with this sort of mod? I am thinking it is going to be a bit of a challenge the way the cockpit is set up and the companionway, and having to be in the close quarters underneath etc...

One of our YC members changed out the traveler on his O'Day 25 with a Garhaurer years ago and I don't think he had any problems. I would go ahead and find a way to do it.
I changed out a Nico Fico with a Harken traveler this past spring at the club with the boat sitting in the water at the dock. Most of the work was done on one of the club picnic tables and involved the Teak beam that the track is bolted to. I brought all the tools that I needed from home and got it done.
The Nico Fico track had spring type stops which is probably a little easier to operate than the one you have on your O'Day 25, but I was so happy to be rid of it.

The difference between the Nico Fico and the Harken is like night and day. You'll be just as pleased with the Garhaurer Traveler. Just go for it.

I put in a little longer track when I installed my new traveler. It wasn't that bad.

I have an '80 Oday 25. I recently discovered that the inboard sidewall of the port quarter berth is a swing down panel that gives access to under the cockpit, opposite of the lazerette. That should give good access to the underside of the traveller if you have the same panel.
