I have a yanmar 3ym20. The impeller is very easy to reach and I changed the impeller on this type of engine in a class I took recently. I plan to change the impeller before I put the boat in the water this spring. For the life of me I can't remember if you lubricate the impeller blades before putting it in. If my memory serves me right, I am supposed to lubricate the blades with glycerin before placing the impeller back in the pump. Is that correct? Is there more than one type of glycerin? thanks

any grease

I usually use water pump grease. It is only necessary until the water fills the cavity. Jim

Check with Yanmar

I'd check with Yanmar. As I recal certain types of grease can actually break down the rubber in the vanes causing premature failure. I usually use a touch of hand soap on my Westerbeke. Just enough to make it easier to install it. Good luck.
