changing depthsounders

I'm trying to find out if I can replace my old Datamarine depth reader with a Navman or Raymarine reader using the current Datamarine tranducer. I'm trying to avoid hauling out and replacing the transducerjust to get a new reader. I know about surface mounted transducers that shoot thru the hull but I would prefer to use the one I have if I can. Any help would be appreciated. I called Navman and the tech there wasn't sure if it would work. Datamarine info is scarce.

It probably not going to work

because there is very samll chance that old transducer would have same impedance or transmitting current(or power). But you can compare technical data of the old transducer with the new one. If they are exactly idendical then you may use the old transducer.

Not necessary to haul out

Lee, it's not necessary to haul out to replace the transducer. All you need is a plug, and to move very quickly. I know that it's contrary to logic, but just have the plug ready to go, and when you remove the old transducer, quickly insert the plug. The water pressure coming in is not as strong as you would expect and you might get about a quart of water in the boat. It's also kinda scary doing this by yourself for the first time so maybe someone around the marina, who's done it before, can help. Good luck.

depth sounder noise

my depth sounder makes a terrible ticking clicking noise , dies anyone know if this is normal?? the the noise is coming from the readout display unit not the transducer , could there be a problem or is this how its suppose to function, its very annoying!!!
