hello, has anyone changed out the factory foredeck hatch? I've just re-bedded the plastic but it's a lousy design on mine: just a flange that the plexi sits on with a small trough all the way around that you layup the goop. It's only a matter of (a short) time before the goop gives way again. I'd like to know if anyone's done a straight swap with some manufacturer's product so I don't have to drill more deck holes. Thanks!

Leaking hatch

I have the same problem on my 79 Mirage 27-2. I have spent three winters trying to repair mine and am finally giving up. I just talked to Bomar and they have hatches which will work on your 26 as well as my 27, which are esentially the same boat, excepting mine has a foot longer transom. While I don't have a part number for you, your hole opening is 18 7/8th square (measure this before ordering). Tell them you want a hatch that doesn't have a spigot and simply screws to the deck and you'll be good to go. Sorry, these hatches are not cheap, however, they're not as expensive as Lewmars. Lewmar's webite is worthless, they don't even give the size of their hatches! Worthless!

thanks - keep me posted

Thanks DeSchane. If you end up buying a new hatch, please come back with the part number. I found a couple Canadian retailers of Bomar on the Web... I'll probably tackle this in the early Spring as my new $6 tarp seems to be doing the job while my Mirage awaits warmer weather.
