1986 Catalina 27 I changed house battery due to it leaking. I tried to start engine and the blower wouldn't even turn on and nothing totally dead. All my 12 vdc systems are working. I have installed a new Charger in the last 2 months and was able to start engine after installing but with old battery. Any ideas? I have check my connections all seems to be in order.

It is possible the new battery has a dead cell.

If all the connections are good then you need to check the voltage of your new battery. If it is between 12.0 and 12.4 volts it is discharged. If it is lower than 12 volts then return it to the dealer to check it out. Ray.

Ouch

Ray thanks for the response. I check both batteries voltage and they read 13.2vdc. I had redone my batteries system including installing a new charger and had disconnected the hard wired charger that the PO had installed in the distribution panel ( I was afraid I disconnected something I shouldn't have and had no idea of the configuration I had disconnected). I installed tie downs and boxes that weren't there when I bought the boat. I started trouble shooting and disconnected all the battery wires cleaned the rings and hooked eveyting back up. This still didn't resolve the problem. It's time to start tracing grounds. I'm a big guy and getting to the batteries isn't easy for me. I grab the negative lead of the starting battery (behind the new box)and started to trace it out and dam if it wasn't connected. ouch. This was very humbling as I've been a Systems Test Quality Control inspector for a mjaor Defense contractor. :( Thanks for taking the time to help out.
