Change or Replace Air Intake Filter

I want to clean or replace the air intake filter on our Yanmar 4JH2-TE. Any advice on what to expect and how to go about this would be appreciated. We are not having any issues, I am putting it on the R&M list. I don't want to remove until the season is over and am wondering if this filter is a throw away or can be cleaned. Is there any other items I can be looking at while this filter is removed?

If after removing the filter it does not fall apart, you can wash it in soap and water, dry it and reinstall it.

Is there a paper element in there? or foam? or nothing?

If paper, K&N makes a "recharge" kit that includes a detergent for cleaning the paper element and an oil to re-oil the paper.
