Can anyone tell me when Catalina changed the floor plan on the C-22. I presently have a 78 model and am looking at an 88 model. Of course there is a noticable difference in the deck, interior, hatches, etc.. I am interested in hearing any comments about the pros and cons of the two styles before making a decision to trade. Thanks, CL

I think the new design came out in 1987

Up until then, I don't think there were any drastic changes in the layout.

cat-22 floor plan

i have an 88. the plan works well for us. we usually sail with two adults and 3 kids, all girls age 4,6, and 9. even if all 3 are down below at the dinette while we are in cockpit, they have plenty of room. the storage under the starboard settee is spacious and so far our only "complaints" are the lack of head room for the big people while the pop top is down and the placement of the head. hoping realistically to move up to a cat28 someday (dream world would be a 36...lol ) with headroom and private head. we have the wing keel version so there is no problem with whacking shins on the keel handle. jeff.

1985

CL: The Catalina 22's have had 3 floor plans. The first floor plan, like your 78 which had the optional slide out galley was built from 1969 to 1985 and include sail numbers from 1 to 13142. The second floor plan with the galley between the main cabin and V-berth was built from 1985 and 1995 and include sail numbers 13143 to 15347. And last but not least the third floor plan known as the C22 MKII started production in 1995 and continues today with sail numbers 15348 and higher. I found this information on the Catalina 22 National Association's web site under the brocures section (link included below). They have the actual brocures and lists the years and sail numbers for each floor plan. Barry Broyles C22 #1909 "Brighteyes"
