Change a couple of things?

Our Oday 32 has proved to be very well suited to our needs but a couple of modifications would help the flow of people fore and aft. The main cabin is a conventional layout with center mounted salon table and 2 6'6" settees port and starboard. The drop leaf table is always in the way when the leaves are up. I have drawn up a dinette arrangement for the port side which would use the original table modified to suit. With several major boatbuilding projects behind me, I feel sure I can create a space that will look like it was built there. My concern is resale value. Will this devalue the boat? Another small change is considered to the aft cabin to convert a seldom used vanity sink space to additional drawer storage. Whatch think?

Thanks in advance, Darrell

for what its worth...when I made improvements to my o'day 31 I was only concerned with the value they brought to me rather than the next owner. as long as you are not doing something crazy you should be fine

Darrell, it's your boat, your choice. What you're planning seem like good improvements. Many times those tables are in the way, and making one smaller that wuld work for you makes good sense. Just keep the old one in your attic or garage to give to the next owners. As far as the vanity is concerned, that sounds like a real improvement for something that rarely gets used, if ever. I don't think anybody would miss that on such a relatively small boat. Go for it.

do what ever makes you happy with your boat ...i have done away with the starboard settee and made it in to a buffet style cabinet ...that houses my up right refer along with my hvac system and also 4 drawers...the dang settee was 57" long and the only way you could use it was to stick your feet in the storage closet at the forward end after moving a corner coushion...so i will be very happy with the new arrangement and i don't really care what the owners going forward may think after all i am the one that has to be happy with it now...so if you like what you have proposed for the boat alls i can say is getter done lol...and good luck

regards

Thanks for your thoughts. Stu, the table is going to be part of the new dinette arrangement to keep a consistent look with the original. I have, so far, used the aft cabin vanity sink once. Don't think I'll miss it. Just finishing up oiling and rubbing down all the main cabin teak trim and I must admit for a 35 yr. old vessel it's remarkably well preserved and is coming back beautifully. Thanks again. If there are any Oday 32 owners out there who have made changes for the better on their boats, I' love to hear about them.

Highest regards, Darrell
