My O'Day 20 is in need of new chainplates...I have checked with DRMarine but the cost for them seems a "little pricey". Does anyone know any other place where I might find them or have them made?
Thanks
Thanks
Jon,Could you describe dimensions of chainplates, and quantity needed? I may have what you need -- made from 1/8 in. S.S., 3/4 in. wide.
Brad,Yeah, I asked Rudy and his chainplates are only the u-bolt piece. They do not include the L-plate that connects to the bulkhead.

That is the one Joe! I ordered a set from Rudy(had to make a bank loan...lol)they were bigger than the originals. I had the L brackets but I had to drill to 5/16's to make the new ones fit. I would like to beef up those brackets though. FAir WinDsJon,
I think that his side chainplates look like this one. These are same type that were on my OD 222. In fact, I still have them in my cellar. One of the bolts on one of mine is bent a little.

I checked out those Catalina eye bolt type chain plates and I'm leery of them only because they need more reinforcement inside the cabin. A strut or an "L" type bracket needs to be attached to them as well something solid inside the cabin such as a bulkhead. When one of my old "L" brackets cracked inside the cabin, the surface under my chain plate was starting to bulge. I never really caught it at the time. I took my boat to Rudy at D&R Marine, and his business partner at the time, went into the cabin and found it and pointed it out to me. This prompted me to change my chain plates over to the flat bar type plate commonly used on O'Day 25s.My chainplates fell apart when removing them and now I'm thinking of converting to the Catalina 22 1/2" eyebolt style and chainplte bracket.

If you can anchor it down in the cabin to something solid, I don't see why it won't work for you. The problem that I had after I went to the O'Day 25 chain plates was, water getting in around the chain plates and on to my main bulkhead. I solved that problem with metal covers welded to the chain plates. Knock on wood, I haven't had a problem since. There is never an easy way out though. As soon as you solve one problem, another one always creeps up.I like the idea of having a dedicated 1/2" eyebolt per shroud and large L bracket to better distribute the load. Both of my chainplates were one good gust away from coming through the deck.
