hello. i have an oday 22. the u bolt chainplates connect to an L shaped bracket that mounts to the bulkhead. i am having trouble finding this L shaped bracket. i tried contacting rudy and have not heard back from him yet. i have also contacted ronstan, suncoast stainless, and rig rite. i have not found this bracket yet. i was also thinking of fabricating the bracket or buying ss chainplates and bending them to 90 degrees. if anyone has any info on this i would be gretaly appreciative. my boat is sitting in its dock unsailable and its killing me.

Joe,
Did you call Rudy or did you email him? You're better off calling him. I'm pretty sure that he has these L brackets. I had the same set up on my 86 O'Day 222 years ago and I installed O'Day 25 chain plates. I really don't recomment that you that route though. It's a heck of a lot easier to just replace the L brackets. If Rudy doesn't have them, you could probably have them made up somewhere. I've been down that road before.

i called him three times. finally got a hold of a woman who told me is would take at least three weeks. thats how long it took him to build my new rudder. she also said they were 40 a piece. yikes! i talked to rig rite and they have the angle bracket for 22! nice. i took the old angle brackets to cleveland motorcycle and they sent me to a corvette guy who fabs stainless. he is welding them right now and putting corner braces on to strengthen the little buggers. it will cost about 20. i should have them by monday. and rig rite would have me new ones in two day ship. so iam pretty pleased. i am also glad that i didnt use the ones i fabbed myself. although i did a great job using mending steel at 255mm, i trust a pro to make them to withstand the disbursement of pressure. besides i think i might have went a little to beefy for my 22. now if i can find out about the spinnaker i will be set.

I think that you're better off having them made by a metal fabricator. I can't believe that they want all that money for those chintzy little L brackets. I'm not sure how much I paid for the O'Day 25 chain plates. I want to say about $18 a piece when I bought them off Rudy. Then I had problems with water getting in around the chain plates. I had to have special plates made up to go over the OD chain plates, and have them welded to them. I think that job cost me about $250. I had beefed up the bulkhead with solid oak boards in the V birth section which I bolted to the settees. I haven't had a problem since. Good luck Joe!

thank you. they are expensive. thankfully there is no water leaking. i have a great silicone sealant i can use when iam ready to remount them. we had a storm this afternoon and i was sure they would leak but not a drip. i was very impressed with the work you have done to your boat. keep up the good job.
