I'm looking to replace my rode with 125-150' of chain (plus nylon)to make my rode retrival easier (nylon rode gets hung up in hawspipe, chain doesn't). But after looking at the price of chain at WM / Defender ect I'm rethinking. Does anybody have a suggestion where I don't have to pay $3-4 a foot for chain?? Thanks. bob f.

not sure if your west marine honors price matching but the ones around here will> just get pushy and tell them you will start ordering EVERYTHING somewher else. I also have some commercial fishing supply places near me and i buy 5/16 galvanized chain from them at $1.50 ft. haven't had any problems with it and if i wanted the 3/8 is still only $1.99 ft

376 Anchor Rode
Bob, The anchor chain on a 376 builds up in the locker and jams in the navel pipe. I modified my boat to feed the chain into the centre of the locker. This involved sawing off the pipe just below the windlass and making a joint to a new piece of 2 ½" PVC pipe and through the vertical bulkhead at approx 45°and then into the centre of the top of the chain locker. This meant having the new pipe between the berth cushions, but this is okay because the berth is over 7' long. This largely solved the problem but I still only use 100' chain before going on to rope. Any more chain would still pile too high in the locker and fail to topple. This will then jam the pipe as before. Please look into the archives as it is an unresolved problem on the 376. Regards,

I saw your modification, but I don't want to go thrugh all that. I generally anchor in 15-25' for the majority of the time, so I'm only planning on 100-125' of chain spliced onto 150' of nylon. I'm assuming that length of chain should be ok. Thanks for your note. Bob

Hi I have 125' of chain with 150' nylon spliced to it. Chain works fine, the nylon is if I ever need the extra rode length as it needs someone in the V-berth to feed it away from the hawse pipe. Looking at my setup, I don't think I would have a problem with 200'of chain. I was going to do that but it meant buying a new 200' as no one could give me a satisfactory method of joining HT chain that would run through the windlass and not create a weak link. However do not need to do that now as I have purchased a new H41.
