What are those partly exposed stainless steel posts, port and starboard inside the cabin, that support the chain plates on my '93 Hunter 30T?

Anyway, the port one clunks and bangs down below where it must be attached to the hull, but only when the wind is blowing across my boat. I figure the mast is flexing and jarring the post. This clunking worries me, not to mention that it makes sleeping difficult. Does anybody else have this problem? Is there a solution short of tearing out the the liner and doing some major reconstruction?

I had a 1985 Hunter 31. I assume that the construction was similar to your '93 model. You can take a look at the construction in the attached link. It is something that you may want to take care of ASAP based on the attached post.

Good luck!
Thanks for the info. I'm hoping my problem is less severe. I talked to Hunter tech support and they said the bars need to be tightened regularly. I never knew that! They said to get a big wrench on it and turn the nut til it tightens a bit. I'll try it and see what happens.

They also said that if there is no apparent leaking, there should be no damage to the chain plate anchor. Also I'm in fresh water, so I think that may be another factor in my favor.

Cheers,

Numlock
