My forestay chainplate failed in a knockdown, and I think a similar thing happened to Steve Birch's, but I am not sure about the ubolt/shroud plates ever being a problem...K.L.Magee

Kenneth, I enjoyed your updates, opening an atlas and watching your progress across the globe. I was sorry to hear of your trip ending. Have you thought of putting some of your experiences down in writing to entertain some of us who are just too lethargic or dull to pull ourselves out of our armchairs? I know I can not be the only one who would like to know more.

I have sooo much video and pics to still sort through, and I am having my log books and charts sent in from vanuatu, perhaps when I sort it out I will be able to give you guys a run down. I still check in from time to time to see what everyone is doing and in doing so I will always share any info I can on any subject being discussed.......It was a damned good run though...just didn't make it as far as I wanted, but hey ...I am glad I had sack enough to give it a shot. My perspective on everything has changed as a result.

fair winds

It's spelled Vanuatu and is about 500 miles NW of Fiji. There's about 60 islands in the chain and I sailed to many of them in 2007 when I sailed from there to New Caledonia to Australia. Vanuatu is one of my favorite island chains. The people are friendly and the outer islands absolutely beautiful. If you would like to see some of the pictures I took, check out the sailing page of my website.

the Banks Islands just north of there is perhaps the most beautiful spot I found on the whole trip. you will pass them if you try to run from samoa to the torres straits. if ever going that route plan your schedule for a stop. they are wonderful.K.L.Magee
