Are the chainplates on a Hunter 260 able to carry the load of the boat? In other words, is it reasonable to lift the boat from the trailer using a sling attached to the chainplates?

Boat weights about 3000lbs without any water in the ballast tank. Would be a case of deck separation from hull. Jim S/V Java

Sam, There is no reason to even think about

doing this. The chainplates are the anchor points for the shrouds and not lifting points. If you want to remove your boat from the water and set it upon the hard it is done with slings that are wide enough to suspend the weight while airborne. I might not understand the reason for this request so if you would explain why it would help. Did you get the e-mail? Ray S/V Speedy
