seems to be the preferred treatment for exterior teak. What kind should I use? What brand? Where can I get it?

Cetol is the brand name - made by Sikkens.

You probably mean the teak on your cabin or deck right, and not on your vessel's topsides? I suppose you could have a teak rub rail on your topsides.

Cetol Marine makes Sikkens, you can get it at West Marine. I use the Satin, it looks good and lasts. Be sure to sand if your teak is rough. A good two part cleaner like Semco couldn't hurt proir to sanding. Just like painting, surface prep will yield good results. Three coats are required for the first application, then it's one coat per season after that. If you did a good job, it sould look good for 5 - 8 years before it starts to flake or discolor. At that point it's very easy to sand off and re-apply.

Try..

sanding down to bare wood with 200 grit as final sanding grit. Then do 2 coats of Cetol NATURAL as base coat. (There is also regular cetol which is more deeply colored, and cetol light which is the same but not as deeply colored). After the base coats...add a couple of Cetol GLOSS and you will love the results. Can be had at West Marine but Defender and others hav it way cheaper.
