I am looking to freshin' up our wood walls. A friend gave us a can of Cetol. Has anyone used that on the interior? Do you have to sand to bare wood?? Any special techniques or brushes?? As always..thanks for the help. Jake

That is an exterior product that may not accomplish what you want in an interior. It adds some color that may not be what you want in an interior. I would suggest a furniture hardwood oil or wax. Otherwise, try it on just one section before you commit. RD

Whoa, use Daley's SeaFin from this site

Hold on now, you're planning to work too hard. That is out door stuff and you probably ought to clean the teak before putting that on. Hunter has used Daley's SeaFin for years and it is great stuff to work with. You can buy it on this web site. Clean your inside teak--I used a super green spray and then wiped it down. When all was dried, I used a cheap brush to paint on the SeaFin in about one yard patches and then took 400 WetDry sandpaper and gently sanded the area. Do it lightly! Then I took a dry cloth and wiped it off. It's all on the can--the directions. Can't go wrong. And it looks great. People come aboard and what to know what we use. It took me about a day of slow work to do the entire interior of the boat.

Cetol

I agree with Rick. We have used Minwax Provincal stain on some doors,we cut some slots into for ventilation. The color was a good match. Dennis

How Much?

How much did it take to do the whole thing? Thanks for the response. I don't like to re-invent the wheel! Jake

use Seafin. That was the original product.

Use Seafin. That was the product that was originally used on most of the Hunters. Just wipe it on. Cetol is not an appropriate product for the interior.

Seafin and or varathane clear

Never use a home teak oil - they attract the dirt and over time the teak gets very dark. Seafin although called a teak oil drys to a hard satin sheen and prevents the wood from going dark. On the fiddles and handles that get a lot of use and abuse I also use varathane exterior clear satin finish (oil based) as it give added protection. If your teak is really dirty you will have to clean, sand and possible bleach to bring back the colour.

How much to purchase

Les, How much SeaFin did you use for the entire interior and did it only take one coat? Thanks, Robert

Cetol

While most of the responders here seem to feel that Cetol should only be used on the exterior of your boat, I've used it -- and like it -- on a number of interior jobs. I used it for a teak book rack, my salon table, and some other interior teak trim items. The key is whether you like the look of it or not. If you like it, use it. Very subjective question.

Interesting Reading

I took a glance at the back of the Cetol can. It is approved for down below! I guess it is a case of taste. However, if I only have to wipe Daly's on and be done with it...I'm lazy at heart!! Thanks for all the help.
