I am hearing a noise as I am crusing about 8 knots or better and it appears to be comming from the raising/lowering line for the centerboard. The boat is a 26x (1999). When I cleat the line snug the noise will change in pitch but will not go away. Any ideas.

sounds

I own the same boat, never heard the rope sing. I also had a swing keel 22 mac that had a wire line for the lead keel and it did sing when kept tight. If I loosened the cable the sound went away. Sounds like you may have tention on the line. Check to see that the keel is going down all the way and check the keel out in different positions. Ken

re:sounds

I will look at that. The previous owner had tied a knot in the end of the line that kept the centerboard at its current position ( I assumed fully down). thanks for the tip.

Singing Cable

I sail an '97 26X. That year has a centerboard cable attached to dacron line topsides. When the cable sings, I know I am really moving. Adjusting the line tension, does eliminate the singing.
