I have searched the articles about the centerboard and they are very helpful. I was in deep waters i pulled on the cable to get the center board down when i launched the other day in long island sound. The wire usually stops at a certain point, but i gave it a good tug and for some reason i got 6 more inches out of the cable and actually heard the centerboard moving meaning that it was never down all the way to begin with. (This boat is new to me) I then ran into a sandbar and i saw the wire retracting, and upon retracting i pulled again and it pulled right off. So as promised by all of you, i now have a centerboard problem. Im going to look at it today and see if i can find out the problem and what actually broke if anything. I ll report my findings here and see what can be done. It does not appear that anything broke, i didnt here a snap or anything, it sounds like the wire just came off track... I hope so...

Update

Ok, i dropped the centerboard and found one cable still attached, the one that raises the centerboard. I cant find where to attach the cable to lower the center board. Any clues?

Lowering the centerboard

I don't know if the Daysailer's centerboard setup is like the Javelin. On the Javelin, the centerboard lowers simply by the pull of gravity. It's steel and weighs around 60 lbs.

it attaches here

at the lower forward corner when the board is up. It is easily accessible from under the trailer. The knotted end of the line is epoxied into a hole in the front edge of the cb.

Well for now

Although i dont like it, but its a guarentee to work... In the on the boat where the centerboard compartment is, I found a hole exactly 1/2 inch in diameter, it was plugged with a cork...hmmm... I went to home depot and purchased an aluminium rod and curled the top of it so i can push the rod straight down and the centerboard drops. Im going to put er down the shore on Friday or Saturday and see how this works out.

Update

While i told you about the 1/2 pipe i had made, and how i lower the centerboard. This has worked, but now the problem is, is holding the board in place all the time. I can see why the designers setup has had so many problems. The beating the centerboard takes when in the ocean keeps forcing it back up. Yesterday, the centerboard pushed the half inch tubing to the side. My boat is now on someones beach area and Im going get it out today. When coming up with a solution to a problem, I like to make it a final solution. As suggested earlier, the 1 inch, or 3/4 hole may not be a bad idea.
