Centerboard

I have an R19 knockoff, by American Sailboat Co, of Annapolis, MD. It was built in 1970. The centerboard has a hole in the bottom, about the size of a quarter. Water infiltration has swelled the board at the bottom, so when I pull it up into the trunk all the way, it sticks.I plan to repair the hole in the fall. Of course, when on the traiker, the board won't come down enough to paint or repair. Any ideas on how to access the board, and repair, will be appreciated.

Centerboard access

Pat, I put my R19 on a couple of 55 gal drums under the stern and various other blocks and supports. Gave me enough room to drop my centerboard. Do some measuring to ensure proper clearance in advance. Mine was easy to get off the trailer. It just took patience. Let me know if I can help.

getting the boat onto the drums

HBDement: Thanks for the reply, but how do you get the boat onto the drums. I have a hydraulic jack, which even on two railroad ties, doesn't jack the stern up high enough to get a sawhorse under it. Also, after the boat is on the drums/sawhorse, I think the trailer might still prevent the board from coming all the way down. What did you do? Finally, have you ever done any repair on the board? It just so happens I am hauling out on Labor Day weekend, and plan on doing whatever work I can on the problem the following weekend. I appreciate your input. Regards,
