I have an O'Day 30 and had the centerboard pendant break, I hauled the boat removed the board and have been sailing without a board. The boat goes fine but now it is time just to put it back together the way it was made. The old pendant had a piece of wire that just had eyes swedged on both ends. The board end to a piece of stainless that is bolted through the centerboard and a piece of line on the other end leading through the deck to a block system to pull board up. I tried duplicating this method but was unhappy with the results as the eyes seemed to chafe on the tube that the line goes though. I though I would have a line to cable splice made and a fitting of some type swedged on the board end. If anyone has had any experience with this system I would appreciate your input. I also need to repair the wedges that go into the trunk, was hoping to just replace them but Rudy says they are not available. I think I can salvage the ones I have with a little help from west system.

Try and get the eyes as small as possible and the crimp as close as possible to the eye,I got five years before mine broke and it broke just above the crimp from wearing on the fiberglass tube......here's a picture of my 32 centerboard which I'm sure is almost exactly the same as yours.

Hello captrick, We have used a small ss shackle on the end of the CB pendant, however, the CB now does not pull entirely into the trunk. There is no cable involved on our boat at this time. Periodic checking when we clean the bottom can warn of chafing. Where and how we sail we seldom lower the CB, but fully lifting it would be nice. Be sure to change the CB pendant through bolt and probably the tang before reinstalling the CB. The tang & bolt on our boat failed due to corrosion that was not evident during inspection of the easily visible parts.
