centerboard winch on 75 OD25

I have just purchased a 1975 OD25 which is equipped with a winch in the cabin to raise the centerboard. I sail in a lake with sandy beaches and will beach the boat a lot. Does anyone know if it is possible, or have any advice on moving the cable in the cabin to the cockpit. I would like to do this for ease of sailing (raise or lower the c/b on the move) and also to make a double bed in the cabin. thanks

Centerboard winch doesnt sound right.......

The board is light enough not to require a winch. I have an 1976 O25. On mine the centerboard pendant passes through a grommet below the bridge deck right into the cockpit. If I recall correctly there is a pulley that the pendant passes over which is visible on the bulkhead behind the galley sink. When i need to pull up the board I just pull on the pendant (from the cockpit) and secure in on a cleat right next to where it enters the cockpit. I believe this is the factory setup. You might look around and see if there is evidence of the pulley and grommet on your boat.Good luck,Jim

Centerboard Winch???

I agree with JimB. I also have a 76 O25 and the line for the centerboard comes into the cockpit behind the galley sink and thru the bulkhead just to the left of the electrical panel, under the companionway, out the sidewall into the cockpit.

I agree with the earlier two replies. I own a 79 O'Day 25. The centerboard is a simple rope breaded to wire cable, fastened to the centerboard design. Extremely simple set up. No pullies, no winches. Just manual pull and tie off to a cleat. Your set up is unusual, but changes in design by the manufacturer are not. Give Rudy at D&R Marine a call. He would know if O'Day ever did your set up in the factory

thanks for the help. The information I have is that the 75 model had a winch and that it was changed for the 76 and following models. I will try to connect rudy who I often see recomended in other articles.
