Looking for a simple way to replace the uphaul on a 1995 - 26. I have been told that the boat must be lifted of the trailer to get to the hold and fitting to replace the line. Any ideas would be helpful as the line is chaffed at the entry at the mast base. (replies to jnovotnyp@aol.com)

The H26 has to be lifted/raised about at least 16 to 18 inches from the trailer. There are several opinions about whether ot not to use a lift .... or whether to raise the boat on the trailer. There are some serious safety risks that must be overcome to safely raise the boat on the trailer, but it can be done. In my humble opinion, if the uphaul line is not in danger of completely breaking, I'd leave it as it is until you need to lift the boat for other reasons, such as doing a bottom job. Then, use that time to replace the uphaul and all other tasks that may require lifting the boat until the next bottom job. BrianW

Brain is correct about trying to replace that line when the time for cleaning/painting the hull and so forth unless it is urgent. I would caution you to take the boat to the yard and have it lifted in order to replace it. THe line is 7/16 not 1/2 inch size for replacement and do run a tracer line when pulling out the old line.

FYI, I know the boat too well and always believe in safety.

There are excellent step by step instructions on this site with pics on just how to do it. With the boat blocked up for bottom painting, its not hard to remove the board and related components. You'll have the opportunity to re-shim the board in the event of excessive play, renew the up haul line and understand exactly how it all works.

Knowing the board and related gear are in fine fettle will add to your confidence in your yacht.

Kind regards

Hugh
