I have a 1980 Daysailor with a centerboard that is VERY stiff to move. I would like to know how to get at the pivot pin. As a related problem, it is on a trailor and I don't have a convenient way to raise it 3 feet in order to drop the board. Is it safe to careen the hull onto its beam to do this kind of work or clean the bottom (the boat is in the water for months at a time)?

Cleaning Day Sailer Bottom

Greg, I suggest you ask your question on the O'Day owners chat group listed below. Many owners have discussed this sort of thing. I have blocked by Rhodes 19 up on barrels under the stern and wooden blocks at the bow with boards under the sides for support. This provided excellent access to the bottom for cleaning and painting. If you need to clean scum, there are a number of techniques after you pressure wash the moss off when you first haul it out. Don't let the scum dry. It gets hard and will take forever to remove. We can visit off list if I can help. hbdement@pdq.net oday-list@sailnet.net
