I plan on replacing the centerboard lifting line on my 1999 H-260 - either this fall or next spring. I have downloaded general instructions from the archives of this forum ... my specific question here is the length, diameter and more importantly the KIND of rope that is proper for this application.

It should be very strong; stretch resistant and must be long lived as I do not want to have to repeat this for a number of years. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I'm assuming that this line is 100% above the water line - that it does NOT get wet. Is this correct?

Did ours last season and it was much easier than I'd have thought but I don't remember the specific size. Take a piece of the line with you to your local WM and make sure that you buy the highest quality line with the lowest stretch specs available. Buy a few extra feet to allow for knots and errors. The last 2-3' of the line at the CB head will always be submerged when the boat is in the water.

If there's one trick to getting the CB bracket back into place it'd be to get a 24" piece of 3/4" all thread and use it to easily align the bracket bolt back into the hole.

good luck, mike
