can anyone tell me where the retraction mechanism for the centerboard is located on a 1986 Seidelmann 295? Does gravity deploy the board and cable retract? Help Thank You, Sully

Not sure of set up on Seidelmann 295 but

since no other replies... On my (Tartan 27') there is a line or pennant in the cockpit that is connected to a double spooled spindle inside the cabin. One spool has line the other has wire. The wire goes to the top of the centerboard and gravity is the method by which it is employed. Our centerboard does not lock in the down position - does yours? Probably similar on your boat I hope.

thanks for the help

not sure if my reply was posted, was not logged in.Thanks for your reply and help, but no dice on cockpit, boat is a cruiser and it may not be in the cockpit. Have had a number of sailors look in the most likely places, but still a mystery so far!~It should turn up during the strip-out, which is well underway. Thanks Again! Sully

centerboard mystery solved

as suspected, during the stripout of a 1986 Seidelmann 295, the centerboard retraction mechanism turned up. what appears as a halyard entering the bottom center of the mast foot is in fact the retraction line for the centerboard, which deploys under gravity as the line is payed out. The line goes thru the compression strut down to the keel. Prior to launch while the boat is in the slings, hopefully the attachment point can be inspected with the board in the deployed position. Thanks for your response Bill. I will fill you in on the details of line attachement to the centerboard etc. when I get the opportunity to check it out prior to launch. Managed to completely remove headliner from entire boat (foam shot and liner hanging) Its a shame because the liner material is top notch, but the foam backing is the attachment point thru the adhesive they used, and once the foam goes its curtains for the liner! Thanks for the benchmark suggestion re: up/down position, good idea and I shall comply with it! Thanks Bill Sully
