centerboard removal on h26

I'm needing to remove my centerboard for repairs, check the bushing/pin and replace the lift line. Anyone pulled this off without a crane? Was thinking of trying to fab a rig to allow me to jack boat/bunks off the trailer... would only need 12 or so inches I think. how difficult could it possibly be? tks, Greg of the north.

DID IT TODAY

I just today did my center board. I needed to replace the line. We lifted the bow with a pay loader. That is a tractor with a fork lift on the front. We padded it with a palet but you could use carpet. We lifted the bow a good three feet or so. We then unbolted the center board and droped it down. It went well. We replaced the rope and lined it up and lowered the boat on to the center board. We got the bolt threaded fairly easily. I used 3M 4000 as a sealant. It took us about an hour. The assembly is quite tall so you have ro raise the boat higher that yout think. We put the tongue of the fork lift right under where it says to put a strap. lifting equipment complication

Thanks for the details Corky. I did as well search the archives, but was particularly interested in alternatives to employing heavy equipment for the job considering this is Fort McMurray Alberta... I did find the "crazy" guys reference to "not event think about lifting from the trailer". The problem being, it would almost be cheaper to buy a new boat than try to hire equipment in this town, it all being tied up in either oil sands projects or housing developments. Without going into detail, to hire anyone for anything pulls their resources away from corporate commitments which they will only do for exorbitant prices, if at all. I was thinking it feasable to design a jig that would attach firmly to the trailer frame and lift the boat the minimum required distance. I hear you about the length of the assembly, but looking at the dimensions of the trunk I would think you could slide the board aft while rotating the assembly forward as you gained the clearance. Maybe I don't have a clear picture of the details? I can weld, can dance a bit, but have been told I'm a lousy singer. Seeing how high the fixed keel boats are suspended off trailers, I don't understand what the safety issue would be given a sensible means of lifting the boat, on the bunks. I guess if most people are handy to a boat lift or other means it would have precluded any efforts to the alternative... such alternative may well be far more plausible in my case. Ideas? cautions? precautions? Hauling it 400 miles to a more reasonable economic center has it's own logistical issues, but again, depending on how complex an independant solution would be would have to be evaluated against such alternatives. height os assembly

The height of the assembly was higher than we had anticipted. If you could come up with any kind of a lift mechanism the you can do it. A tractor with a front loader that can be fitted with a fork loft can do it. A garage with a lift and a strap would do it as well. My alternative was to take 2 plus hours to a dealer. Actually they were in the process of moving and could not do it for a couple of months. Good luck. ct
