Centerboard Raising/Lowering

Hi - I'm having a problem getting my centerboard up and down, particularly down. It seems to have relatively "neutral" bouyancy and won't "drop". I admit I'm more accustomed to boats with weighted swing keels (Catalina, e.g.) but it seems our MacX keel wants to float. when up on lift getting new bottom job, we noticed the board appears to be hollow with holes in the top, I assume to allow water inside where it won't float. I've also learned that the connection point of the adjusting cable won't allow the board to be pulled when "full down" - it needs to maintain a rearward rake or you're trying to pull the entire board up through the bottom. Any suggestions of how you guys have addressed this keel lowering/retraction issue? I've thought about adding some lead to the bottom of the board. Thanks.

Drop the CB or dive under to check that the lower holes are not clogged with stray fiberglass or resin. This hole needs to be open so the CB can fill with water.
