I'm not sure if my centerboard is going all the way down or up. Is there anyway to tell short of swimming under the boat. How much does the centerboard weigh and how hard should you have to pull to raise it. Rob Garneau in Paducah, KY

You should hear a clunk...

I have a 26 but I think the boards are somewhat similar. I can always hear my board hit top when I pull it up. It weighs quit a bit and is a strain to pull but you can definatly feel it stop out.

Rob, I also hear the "thud"

when raising the board (fully raised) but have never heard anything while lowering. I just went swimming once when I had the board down to check it out and then tied a string to the line at the sheave to indicate full down. The line should have no free play at the sheave where the sring is tied. Ray

Swim it and mark it

I also have the 240 and had no idea, and no thunk on full up or down. Full down is a swim to check for sure. Full up, on the trailer, you can tension the uphaul and then place a mark where the sheave is postioned at full up. I didn't bother marking full down, as the thing is so heavy, I have no doubt its fully down. Some like to bring the board half up or therabouts in some conditions, so these marks would be handy to have on yours.

Cluncks

I had my 240 out for the first time yesterday. The centreboard lines did need adjustment to make them work properly and it is amazing how little they move - you do get a clunck when it is either fully up or down!
