The boat is out of the water at this time and I am looking for the pin or bolt that the centerboard swings on , I need some help in locating the point on the keel.

Pivot pin location

The boat is a 1984 O'day 26. so far I have not located any cover plates under the paint on the keel. I would like to remove the board for inspection and cleaning.

Pivot Pin

Are you looking on the bottom of the keel or on the sides? The usual routine for O'day centerboards on the 80's boats is that there are two small plates on the bottom, adjacent to the centerboard slot. These plates retain fiberglass "wedges" which hold the plastic pivot pin up inside the slot. The removal and installation of the centerboard assembly is all done from below. I think it is a pretty slick design since the only thru-hull penetration is a small tube for the pendant.

O'Day 26 Centerboard

Last year about this time I removed the Centerboard from my recently acquired O'Day 26. All that has been said about doing so is correct except that weight is about 70 lbs. It can be removed/replaced either from a sling or cradle that has no obstructing cross pieces. A trailer is too low, unless it is one of those tailers for full keel boats. It should be supported in removing to prevent the fall descibed before. The wedges may need to be chipped out if they were glued in. In that case they probably need to be replaced. Ed K
