Have an '84 model and need to replace the centerboard rope pennant. Does the rope portion attach to a cable? If so, is it possible to replace the rope without dropping the board? Rope runs into a stainless steel pipe that threads its way into the keel but the rope cannot be seen. Has anyone out there had to replace their pennant?

Dan, The pennant is one continuous rope with a shackle on one end. I bought it from Rudy at D&R Marine, and messed around for an afternoon trying to figure out how to get access to it. I didn't want to try to install it in the water, and getting the boat supported off the trailer was too risky for my tastes. So, I dropped the boat off at my favorite marine shop, and for about $75, he put the boat in his slings, and replaced the pendant. While it was off the trailer, the guy checked the pivot pin as well. I did mine last year...
I had requested that the marina block the boat (for winter storage) in a way that I could drop the CB while in it's horizontal position. The rest was pretty easy. I don't know your trailer set up but it only required about 16" of clearance. E-mail me if you want more detail.

Relacing Center pennant
We replaced our centerboard on our 1984 222 last spring. It is all rope(no cable or wire). You have to drop the centerboard to replace the pennant as there is otherwise no access to attach the rope to the centerboard. The rope attaches via an elongated D ring. To drop centerboard you have to either put the boat on poppets(boat stands) or have a boat yard do a short haul in their crane straps. Once you have the centerboard down it is relatively easy to replace the pennant. I cut the old rope pennant, sowed the top of the new rope to the cut edge of the old pennant and using the old rope as a messenger pulled the new rope up (carefully and slowly) up through the stainless tubing and up into the cockpit. While the doing this check all centerboard including the small pulley that supports the pennant in the centerboard trunk. We did not have that pulley part at that time, but if I had things to do over again I would have had that pulley part and replaced it too....
