Centerboard Leak

I just purchased a 1991 Oday Daysailer 3, put it in the water and it is taking on water through the hole in which the centerboard cable runs. The water rushes *steady stream) in the "cabin" and then out the drain holes into the cockpit.Can any one tell me if this type of leaking is a common problem and how major an issue it is to fix. would appreciate any solutions.Also this is a self bailer, but also has what looks like a plug hole in the back starboard - does that need to be plugged, and how?

You need a plug.

I have a 1983 daysailer. My centerboard cable configuration might be different than yours but I have experienced that some water will be forced through this hole during rough conditions, but you should not have a steady stream of water coming in. I believe your water is coming in through the open hole in the starboard stern. This is a drain for the double hull and requires a plug. This plug should screw into the transom fitting. A proper sized expandable plug will work also. Without a plug in place the entire double hull area will fill with water and find a way into the cockpit or cabin area of the boat.
