Centerboard at mooring

Is there any reason to raise the centerboard when the boat is at the mooring or dock? I always raise it out of habit when I'm not sailing. I thought the board would get less growth on it if it's up, but the boat seems to pitch and roll less when it's down.

Less wear with it up?

The hours spent rocking back and forth at a mooring are far longer than those spent under sail. Since one can usually hear the board moving back and forth as the boat rocks, I would assume that the movement is causing some wear on the pivot mechanism. Whether it is significant or not I couldn't say.The only disadvantage I can think of is that marine growth would move in to the trunk while the board is up and that it wouldn't drop the next time you wanted to use it, necessitating a dive under the boat to pry it loose.

center board or swing

does this boat have a swing keel? my o'day 26 does and the reason i am asking is that i just put the boat back in the water after putting on antifouling the boat was out of the water several months. prior to hauling out the keel (board)stayed down most of the time, i would raise it ocassionlay to enter shallow coves for overnight etc. i never once heard the Keel make any noise when the boat rocked side to side, but now that its back in the water i hear and feel the keel bump side to side each time the boat rocks, raised and lowered several times. same results, several posts refer to the ware and tare and noise of the keel when down, So is noise normal? or is no noise Normal?
